Frequently asked questions

Who and what is Bronto?

Bronto is building the unified logging layer for the AI era. Our team brings 150+ years of combined domain expertise in logging infrastructure, having built and scaled logging platforms at IBM, Rapid7 and Logentries.

This is our fourth time building a logging platform and we're applying everything we've learned about performance, scalability and cost optimization to Bronto.

How does log ingestion work?

Bronto provides an HTTP endpoint similar to other observability tools, but deliberately doesn't require a proprietary agent. We support your existing logging infrastructure:Any standard logging agent (Fluentd, Fluent Bit, Vector)OpenTelemetry (OTel) collectorsCloud provider agents (AWS)Existing proprietary agents (can be reconfigured to forward to Bronto)Configuration typically requires just a single line change to redirect logs to our endpoint.

What about retention and data access?

Bronto’s default retention period is 12 months, but we can also offer extended retention at a much more competitive price to the competition. All of your data remains instantly searchable with no need for rehydration needed or S3 archival management.

How fast is Bronto’s search and why does that matter?

We’ve also innovated around search, using Bloom filters to deliver sub-second results on terabytes of data, seconds on petabytes. In our experience the faster the search functionality, especially when paired with a long retention period, the more users search logs, resulting in more value for the business.

Where is Bronto hosted?

We run on AWS infrastructure in both the US and Europe regions, with full SOC-2 compliance.

What is Bronto's Fair Usage Policy for Search

All plans come with w/ 100 X Monthly Search Quota. I.e. you can search 100X the volume you ingest in a month. Searches above that are charged at $0.001 per GB ($1 per TB).

Note 100X search quota is more than sufficient for typical logging use cases.

Furthermore this search quota is in place as part of our fair use policy to protect our service and our team typically contacts a customer in advance of any additional charges being made and where significant or sustained search above quota has occurred.

How does Bronto achieve such competitive pricing?

We have deep domain expertise and are able to optimize our usage of modern architecture. Features that enable us to keep costs down and pass the savings to our customers include:

- Separation of compute and storage
- Efficient use of object storage
- Optimized indexing (e.g. bloom filters vs. traditional inverted indexes)
- Focus on core logging functionality rather than feature bloat

Do I need to clean up my logs before sending them to Bronto?

No. Bronto handles structured and unstructured logs without requiring upfront cleanup. We provide log hygiene and transformation on ingest, automatic parsing without complex grok patterns, as well as volume control and sampling capabilities
